Quiznos and Layar Take Toaster Subs Mobile using Augmented Reality

June, 2010 — Quiznos, one of the nation’s premier quick service restaurant chains and pioneer of the toasted sandwich, and Layar, the world’s leading augmented reality platform, announced the launch of a mobile augmented reality campaign.

The campaign will engage consumers using a variety of new features, including:

Quiznos is the first quick service restaurant to take augmented reality animation to a national level – populating major U.S. monuments, sports arenas and other well know locations with Quiznos brand icons like the toaster and popular menu items.

Using their mobile, users will be able to take a photo from within the Quiznos Layar experience and post it directly to Facebook and Twitter, instantaneously sharing the image with friends and followers.

Layar now features a map that immediately self-populates with a user’s various Layars, making it easier for them to interact with Quiznos and discover other nearby establishments.

“For the development we worked closely together together our European based partner Hoppala.eu, which provided us with great technical expertise and was very important in realizing this project. The Quiznos Layar runs on the specially developed Hoppala layer server technology. They have developed some amazing innovative Layars including the Berlin Wall and the Yellow Pages Germany.
